Listen to the baby's voice

Hey, Creative Girl

. . . listen to the baby’s voice

Sophia loves to be talked to. Her voice echoes  the words of “hi, ooh, awww” and the little laugh is beginning to form, preparing for the day she lets out the full-blown-belly-laugh.

There’s something about a baby’s voice that fills our souls with love, hope, joy, goodness, kindness and all the fruit of the spirit. A baby’s presence changes everything. The way we see our lives and how we take time for rest. It’s in the way our love grows deeper for this tiny human we grew inside of us, or in my case with Sophia, my daughter grew inside of her. It literally brings tears to our eyes and touches us in a way that we don’t even know how to put into words like, “I can't even.”

We are reminded about living in the moment, slowing down and taking a break from our busy lives. Stepping out of the hustle to see the real. This is hard to do in a world where everything and everyone is in a hurry, including myself. A baby does not have a care in the world. As long as you feed her, change her, and give her love, she will be content, happy and thriving. She’s like a bird in the air, never worrying about where her next meal will come from. She doesn’t have to ask, it is just given to her because her parents know what she needs and the precise moment she needs it.

“Therefore I tell you, ‘do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow or reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? ~ Matthew 6:25-27

What can the voice of a baby tell us?

Don’t be anxious for anything.

Easier said than done, right? But we must remember God’s Word. He gives us our babies and the birds of the air as a reminder of these things. Opening up our minds, hearts and souls where eternity lies deeply rooted inside of us, right where He tucked it so delicately woven into our very being since birth.

Creative Girl, He put those things inside of you on purpose. He wants us to rely on Him for everything, just as a baby relies on her mother and father. She knows they will come through for her. She doesn’t even have to think about it. She’s like a sheep who knows the voice of her Shephard, guiding her in the direction that’s safe for her to go. She will have bumps along the way, no doubt; the road is narrow and only a few get through. But if she follows, she will not be forsaken and when the end comes, she will meet her maker and will have arrived where she was purposed to go.

I was reminded of this through Sophia, my tiniest granddaughter at only 2 ½ months old. Oh how I love seeing God using the precious little children to get our attention and lead us on the path He wants us to go!

I’ve been struggling with the direction of my life for a few years now wondering and worrying so much of the season of life I’m in now and the path I should take. If you’ve been following me for any length of time, you’ve probably noticed what seems like flakiness, bouncing from one idea or thought to another, never seeming to rest upon one thing. But I’ve since realized through the prompting of the Holy Spirit that my so-called “flakiness” was a season of transformation and redemption. A time where God has been molding and preparing me for the journey and calling He created me for. I was being tossed here and there by the enemy to distract me from my calling because, well, that’s what the enemy loves to do, right?

But then God.

He kept whispering to me, waiting patiently for me to drop my net and follow Him, just like Peter and Andrew did when Jesus called them from the Sea of Galilee where the two brothers were fishing.

“And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 4:19

And guess what? They dropped their nets and followed Jesus! No questions, no doubts, just-full-blown-over-abundance-faith-filled-creative-guys dropped their whole business, income, security and all, to follow Jesus. Because they believed.

I have so much to share about this subject with you, but for now I will leave you with this.

From the baby’s voice comes small little sounds that echo words of faith, transforming our souls to clear out the clutter and allowing us to hear His soft whisper of the hope we so desire.
